A Grand Adventure-Book 8. Part 2.

[Knuckles’ view of things]

‘Ok, which one of you ratted me out?!’ (As it turned out nobody did).

Soon, Silver, Winter and I set out to find Eggman’s place. “Hey Knuckles, sounds like the Commander might be on to you.” Silver teased. I forced a laughed.

“So anyone know where this base is?” Winter asked.

“Oh great, he didn’t give us that information, nice.”

“I’ve got this.” Silver said. “You might want to duck.” He shot out a wave in all directions, only one bounced back. “This way is our best bet.” He pointed south. So we headed south. We ran for a while until we reached what looked like a waste land.

“What is this?” Winter whispered. We walked around looking at the scrapes of metal on the ground and rotting things.

“It looks like a part of Eggman’s Empire.” I stated. Once, not too long ago this planet was full of creatures and happiness, but that was all taken away by Eggman when he started conquering, now there are few little towns here and there, but it isn’t the same.

“But didn’t you guys eradicate it?” She asked.

“These are parts that were abandoned, before we started fighting back.” Silver explained. She just nodded. The waste land was a far as the eye could see.

“Are you sure it’s this way Silver?” He sent out another wave. He nodded. We kept running.

[Shadow’s view of things]

Sonic was being really annoying. Complaining, like a child. “What is wrong with you?” I nearly screamed.

“Gezz, what wrong with me?! I’ve been looked inside this building for two days, and you’re asking ‘what’s wrong’?!” It was the first time he yelled back at me.

“Well at least you weren’t on that blasted ship!” I was really angry, I wanted to forget about yesterday, but I couldn’t, it stuck in my mind like glue.

“Sorry, Shads.” He apologized.

“Even in your apologies you try to mess with me.”

“Well duh.” He laughed. As much as I hated this fact, he was making me feel better-I still utterly hate him-well, maybe not utterly, but I do hate him.

“Alright, I’m going to interrogate the guy, I’m going to need one of you in there in case he wants to kill something.”

“All you Shadow.”

“Fine.” ‘And that is why I hate him.’ We walked into the room and closed the door behind us. Power looked at me, anger in his eyes. I was going to stay as far away as possible.

“You know what charges you’re facing?” He opened a file. “Conspiracy with Eggman and Andrew, attempted murder, assault on government agents…must I go on?” Of course Power didn’t answer. “You’re going to spend the rest of your life on Prison Island. But if you cooperate I could make you stay more…pleasurable.”

He just stood there staring at me! I wanted to get out of the room. It felt like he could see right through me! Like he could see the darkest corners of me. The interrogator threatened for a while until he realized what was going on. He motioned to me that he was leaving I followed, knowing he knew Power was bothering me.

“Well, let’s let that information sink in.” He covered for me.

I nodded. I shook my head, trying to clear it. The room was empty and quiet I looked through the glass, he was still staring at me. I rushed out and back into the busy hallways. I walked down the halls, wandering, trying to get as far away from him as possible. I ended up at the wall that was being repaired. I stood next to Omega. He turned his head and looked at me.

“What is the matter?” I didn’t reply, just looked around. “It is him, isn’t it?” He paused.

“I don’t know, he was staring at me in interrogation, it bothered me.” Of course Omega didn’t answer, that’s why I like to talk to him, he understands, but doesn’t try to make me feel better, he just listens.

[Silver’s view of things]

We had been looking for about an hour, even I was starting to doubt myself. I sent out another wave, it bounced back showing there was something big a few miles ahead, so we keep going. “Finally!”

Eggman’s base appeared. But not a robot or lasered fence in sight. Either Eggman didn’t care or-

“How stupid does he think we are?” Knuckles asked

“Stupid enough to walk into this trap.” Winter answered.

“So…what do we do?”

“What we came here to do, get the information back form Eggman.” Knuckles said in the Commander’s voice.

“Chaos Control!” We appeared inside Eggman’s base. “Well, this is nice.” Winter looked around. “Nothing’s here!” The metal was rusted and smelly. It was really hot, which meant the ventilation system wasn’t working. “This computer won’t even turn on!” Winter called.

“Is it just me or does this place look really old?” Knuckles asked. There was a faint tapping sound coming from the darker part of the base. I took a few steps forward. The room was quiet, only the tapping could be heard. The air was still and hot. My heart was racing, there we plenty of things that it could be. “Silver!” Knuckles hissed. “Get over here!” The tapping sound was getting louder, but I hadn’t moved! “Silver!” They both hissed. I inched my way toward them, slowly, slowly-oh so very slowly. But the tapping was still growing louder, and louder!

“Let’s get out of here, the info isn’t even here.” Winter suggested. I nodded stiffly and rushed toward the door, looking back once, and I could have sworn I saw two glowing red eyes. I ran to catch up to Winter and Knuckles.

“Did you guys have fun?” Yup, yes, that is the first thing Sonic asked.

“No.” I answered.

“You’re just trying to make me feel better.”

“Yup! We had a great time!” Winter lied.

Sonic fake cried. “No fair! Why?!” He stopped. “Oh, you missed Power’s interrogation. It was really boring. He didn’t even answer.”

“What’d you think he’d do, burst into tears and talk?”

“Well yeah, Winter, that’s what I was hoping for.” He replied.

“Well, did he have information?” The Commander asked.

“No. In fact, his computer wouldn’t even turn on.” Knuckles began. “It was an old looking base, the metal was rusted and collapsed.”

“See the wall is slow going.”

“Taking longer than we’d hoped.” He replied.

‘Like we wouldn’t have noticed.’
